A local Bicester charity has received £300 from David Wilson Homes’ Community Chest fund, allowing the charity to continue supporting to families in the area.
Home-Start Oxford and Bicester, which recruits and trains volunteers to support struggling parents with children under the age of five, applied for the money through the homebuilders’ Community Chest initiative, set-up to support local causes in and around its nearby De Lacy Fields development in Kingsmere Village, Bicester.
Karen Porter, Senior Coordinator at the charity, says the money will be put towards training and supporting volunteers. She said; “We are always on the lookout to train and develop people who would like to help struggling families in the area. Volunteers offer befriending support with practical and emotional advice in the home for families who are having difficulties managing parenting for a variety of different reasons.
“Our volunteers offer practical and emotional support, they should be parents or have relevant experience and they must be able to commit to one visit per week. This is important because we can spend weeks or even months helping parents to cope in difficult situations.”
Steve Barton, Senior Sales Manager for David Wilson Homes Mercia commented, “We launched our Community Chest initiative in 2013 with the hope that we’d be able to support the community around De Lacy Fields. Home-Start is an established charity and a very worthwhile cause, offering a fantastic service and we are only too pleased to help.”
