Residents in Bicester are about to benefit from a brand new sports facility at Kingsmere which is opening on Saturday, September 30th.  This fabulous new sports centre will be throwing open its doors from 10 am until 3 pm when residents are being encouraged to try their hand at a range of sporting activities, guided by fully trained experts.

The Mayor of Bicester, Cllr Jolanta Lis, will be in attendance to cut the ribbon and open the doors in her official capacity.  Activities on the day will include archery, buggy fit, Nordic walking and street games.  More traditional sports such as football, cricket and rugby will also be available.

The Sports Ground occupies a site of 17 hectares, provided by Kingsmere developer, Countryside Properties (Bicester) Ltd. The facility, which will be known as Whitelands Farm Sports Ground, has several grass sports pitches which have been prepared for use in the 2017/2018 season.  A wheelchair-friendly cycling/jogging track and outdoor fitness equipment are already available for residents to use.

The two-storey sports pavilion includes changing rooms, lockers, a treatment room and showers on the ground floor. Upstairs has a function room with a kitchen and bar, as well as a space to accommodate up to 150 seated guests. Car parking is also provided.

Andrew Carrington, Director of Countryside Properties (Bicester) Limited comments: “Sport should be an essential part of community living and the facility at Whitelands Farm Sports Ground will enhance the local living experience, particularly for residents living on Kingsmere, as they will be able to walk or cycle to the sports grounds. It will also provide the opportunity for residents to join teams and make new friends – all right on their doorstep.”

The Leader of the Cherwell Council, Cllr Barry Wood comments: “I have watched the growth of Kingsmere with great interest and have enjoyed working with stakeholders to ensure that this development is the very best addition to Bicester possible.  The opening of this Sports Ground on September 30th is another great milestone for Kingsmere.  I am looking forward to seeing the Sports Centre and will enjoy watching our local residents trying their hand at some of the events on offer on the day.”

Kingsmere is located just 12 miles from Oxford and is commutable to London and Birmingham within the hour. As part of the scheme, Countryside Properties (Bicester) Ltd is also contributing major investment toward infrastructure improvements in and around Bicester including public transport, education, library services and highway improvements.  An enhanced local bus service runs directly through the site, providing a link to nearby Bicester town centre and beyond to Oxford.
