A parent and toddler group in Headington has received £300 from David Wilson Homes’ Community Chest fund, allowing the centre to accommodate deprived families during the day.

Wood Farm Parent and Toddler Group applied for the money through the housebuilders’ Community Chest initiative, created to support local causes in and around its nearby De Lacy Fields development in Chesterton, Bicester.

Belinda House, (52) from Headington, has been running the group on a part-time basis for over 10 years; “The parent and toddler group is vital to this community; we cater for children from 0 to 5 years old and of course their parents are present to see them interact with the other children.

“The money which has been generously donated by David Wilson Homes will be used to keep the centre running for the next few months. We often do fundraising events, with children past and present, to raise enough money to buy refreshments, arts and crafts and of course, to pay the rent.”

Belinda says that some parents come on a regular basis to save their heating bills at home; “Some of the children live in a deprived area and because their parents struggle for money, they come to the centre to keep warm. Whilst the children play it gives parents time to relax and they can have a cup of tea and chat to likeminded people in their situation.”

Steve Barton, Senior Sales Manager for David Wilson Homes Mercia commented, “We launched our Community Chest initiative late last year with the hope that we’d be able to support the community around De Lacy Fields. Wood Farm Parent and Toddler Group is a worthwhile cause, offering a fantastic service and we’re only pleased to help.”
